Walking up the stairs from the basement to our main level made me realize it was warm and somewhat humid upstairs. I remarked on it to my husband. He, being the more practical of the two of us, checked to see if the air conditioner was running. It was running but it was still 81 degrees F in the house. That is above our usual set-point.

He checked the heat pump in the basement – which was warm to the touch. He checked the condenser unit outside – which wasn’t turning.

We called for service and several hours and a new starter capacitor later, we are coming down from an uncomfortably high temp of the upper 80s.

Thank goodness for A/C and a nice cool basement.

That happened to us twice in Kansas with the capacitor. The repair came with a 1 year guarantee and it died 13 months later. The 2nd time the house was vacant and the basement carpet got moldy and had to be replaced. That is one pricey little piece of a/c.
